Therapy Intensives in Seattle, WA
Dedicated time to move through pain and into a fuller life.
You’ve tried everything you can think of and still feel stuck.
You’re ready to really heal so that you come out the other side free, present, and fully alive.
Maybe you’ve been going to weekly talk therapy sessions, and it feels like you’re always playing catch up instead of getting to the root of things. Or just when you start to feel safe enough to say the big things out loud, you notice the clock and start to tuck yourself back in so you can go back to work or your kids. It might be that you’ve reached a stable and supported place in life, but you have one area that still holds power and you want to get free from that.
Maybe you’re here because…
You can see how your own childhood wounds have affected your relationship with your kids and you want to find a way to be closer to them
The shaming messages from your religious upbringing keep getting in the way of being free to be yourself
You’re so deep in your child’s mental health crisis that you’ve forgotten how to take care of yourself
You’re tired of your childhood showing up uninvited in your relationships, your body, and your sense of self
You hold space for everyone else’s pain all day and you need somewhere to put your own
Intensives give you the chance to dig in deep without interruption so that you can heal and get back to the goodness of your life.
Instead of the stop-and-start rhythm of traditional weekly appointments, intensives give us room to actually follow a thread all the way through without the clock cutting us off right in the middle of our work. The extended time makes it possible to explore old patterns and beliefs and find new healing without having to wait for the next week. They can be more efficient and also a gentler way of working through trauma.
Having more time means that you can feel all your feelings safely.
No more holding things in or trying to remember what happened in the last session. Instead there is enough space to go deep, see change happen, and still feel more settled before having to leave the office. What surprises people isn’t just the speed of an intensive, but how significant the shift feels at the end of the day. Instead of carrying something for months and slowly chipping away at it, you move through it. You leave having actually changed something, not just understood it better. And that changes what’s possible in the rest of your life.
how it works
Start with scheduling a free 30 minute video consult so that I can answer any questions you might have and together we can decide if an intensive is right for you.
If you decide to move forward, here’s what our work together will look like.
01 | A 90 min intake session (online or in person)
We will talk through your history questionnaire, do a few assessments so that we can be clear on where we are starting, and introduce some elements of EMDR including bilateral stimulation (this is the eye movement or tappers you might have seen). Then we will tailor our plan for extended or intensive sessions based on your needs and availability. I might suggest a full day session or a series of 3 hour sessions every other week for 3 months. We will schedule the upcoming session(s) and review expectations, and make sure you know what you might want to bring with you to make your session as comfortable and powerful as possible.
02 | 3 hour or 5 hour session(in person only)
My office is in a cozy old house in the Georgetown neighborhood. We have tea and water available throughout the day, and a kitchen with a fridge and microwave for any snacks or meals you may bring. There are also a few coffee shops about a 10 minute walk away. On full days we have a full hour lunch break and you are welcome to stay at the office with a packed lunch or go grab something nearby. Breaks, stretching, even a walk around the neighborhood will help to ease the fatigue of a long day.
When you first arrive we will check in and do a somatic arriving practice, something that can help both of us tune into our bodies and our intentions for work we’ll do together. Then we’ll review our plans and work through the concern that has brought you to therapy.
03 | Follow up and 60 min closing session (online or in person)
This is a chance to reflect on the work we’ve done and strengthen the shifts that happened in our extended sessions. We can talk through how your intensive work has changed your day to day experience, what happens in your body when you encounter something that used to trigger you, and any next steps you may want to take as you continue to embrace a truly full life.
Therapy Intensives can help you:
Stop living stuck in checked out or always on alert mode and find a more easeful way of being
Move through the world without the past hijacking your choices
Trust the sensations in your body to tell you what you need and learn how to meet those needs
Dig into the hard stuff and experience real change within a day or a week instead of over the course of a year
Leave with more than insight, real skills and an embodied sense of what change actually feels like
Therapy Intensives are not a good fit for you if:
You have never been in therapy before.
You don’t have much emotional or practical support in your life right now.
You are currently in a crisis.
You are unable to commit to keeping yourself safe.

That’s great! Having an established therapeutic relationship enhances the work we are able to do in an intensive. I often provide adjunct therapy to support the work you are already doing in traditional talk therapy. I am happy to coordinate with your current therapist to make a plan that moves your work forward.

I know this is a big investment. As an out of network provider I don’t bill insurance directly, but I do provide superbills with everything that you need to submit a request for reimbursement. While it varies widely, some of my clients are able to get reimbursement for the first hour of each session we have. It’s important to call your insurance provider to ask about out of network benefits and whether they will reimburse for multiple therapy hours in a single day or week.

I shifted my practice to an intensive focus in 2024 after seeing the incredible impact they were having for my clients. I have completed trainings specifically on providing EMDR intensives. Although they are less common, intensives have been offered in various formats for decades and many therapists find that they are a powerful fit for their clients.

Absolutely. Intensives offer the opportunity to really explore what might be at the root of that stuck feeling without interruption or demand from the rest of your world. Sometimes trying something different or working with someone new with a different perspective can make all the difference. And if there is not a specific experience you are trying to work through, intensives provide the space and flexibility to work with themes that keep showing up in your life.

This is a good question without a simple answer. Having a foundation of self-awareness, an ability to tolerate difficult emotions and uncomfortable sensations makes a big difference in what an intensive can do. And having a strong support system in place and a clear goal might mean that an intensive will be a great fit. If you’ve taken a look at the quiz (here) to help figure out if an intensive is the right fit for you and you want to move forward, let’s talk.

I use a blend of EMDR therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy with a somatic approach and an anti-oppression lens. You can learn more about EMDR here.

People are often surprised when I say that I provide EMDR intensives for 3 or 5 hours at a time because they really do sound, well, intense. But, just like in a typical hourly session, we don’t reprocess the whole time. Instead we check in, review skills needed for the area of focus, move our bodies, take breaks. AND with intensives we don’t have to interrupt reprocessing like we do in a 50 min session. Plus, when we have this dedicated time to focus on healing it can often move us forward more quickly. In fact, my clients have told me that they prefer extended and intensive sessions.
